Twitter kini membuka layanan baru, yakni tweet berbayar. Mengutip laporan Ad Age, sejumlah perusahaan yang menggunakan fitur baru ini antara lain AMC Theatres, American Express, Best Western, Disney, HP, Lexus, Lionsgate, Movietickets.com, Pepsi, Red Bull, Salesforce.com, Sephora, Xbox, dan Yahoo.
Sebenarnya, sejak Juli lalu Twitter sudah mulai memasukkan rangkaian tweet berbayar. Bedanya, saat itu para pengguna Twitter hanya akan mendapat tweet berbayar dari perusahaan yang mereka ikuti atau follow.
Nah, pada layanan berbayar yang sekarang berlaku, pengguna Twitter (baik yang mem-follow dan tidak) akan mendapatkan tweet iklan dari perusahaan yang telah membayar layanan tweet berbayar tersebut. Tentunya program tweet berbayar yang telah disepakati dengan perusahaan tadi tidak serta-merta diterapkan saat ini juga.
Menurut Twitter, penetrasi tweet berbayar akan dilakukan secara perlahan. Lagipula, Twitter perlu memilah siapa-siapa saja yang layak menerima tweet berbayar tadi supaya mereka tertarik dengan isi tweet tadi.
"Tweet berbayar yang berisi iklan akan muncul pada timeline pengguna yang setidaknya pernah men-tweet hal yang sama dengan yang sedang dipromosikan," tulis Twitter dalam blog resminya. "Platform kami akan mendeteksi setiap tweet pengguna sehingga tweet promosi yang sampai ke akun mereka relevan dengan minatnya."
